Inertia gives its inhabitants a drill in the opposite direction. As pioneers reach California since 200 years, they find, moving westwars comes to a end there. But they still feel the force of the earth's drill. They needed to find a target to transform this energy into something usefull. They found technology. Californians are moving the boundaries of human capabilities.
